Application of PLCs in Manufacturing and Assembly Process

In an industrial set up PLCs are used to automate manufacturing and assembly processes. By 'process' we mean a step-by-step procedure whereby a product is manufactured and assembled. It is the responsibility od the product engineering dept. to plan for manufacture of new or modified products. Other processes might involve the filling and capping og bottles the printing of newspapers, or the assembly of automobiles etc. In many such manufacturing situationd,PLC palys an important role in carrying out the various processes.

Advantages of PLCs:-

1) Reliability in operation
2) Flexibility in control techniques
3) Flexibility in programming and reprogramming in the plant
4) Large quantity of contacts
5) Online/offline modifications
6) Cost effective for controlling complex system
7) Small physical size, shorter project time
8) In-house simulation & testing of project
9) Speed in operation
10) Abillity to communicate with computer system in the plant
11) Ease of maintenance/ troubleshooting
12) Documentation
13) Security
